Atlantic
stones.
A coastal reference from the Canary Islands: dark stones, blue water and a line of foam that never settles into quite the same shape.

Watch the return of a wave
The strongest shape is not always the wave arriving. As the water pulls back, pale foam draws smaller lines around the stones. Keeping the frame fixed makes it easier to notice which of those lines holds the composition together.
In a scene like this, a short exposure preserves the texture of the moving water. A longer one softens it. Neither is the only answer: the choice depends on whether the picture is about the surface of the sea or its slower rhythm.
Let the shoreline set the palette
The cool blue water and nearly black rock already offer a clear contrast. Keeping the colour treatment restrained lets the wet surfaces and the natural light carry the image. There is no need to make every stone equally bright.
